Fundraising and Fees Update
Hello LBA Families,

A few years ago, the LBA and the City of Lakeville met to discuss a way to address the increasing demand for field time.  The most economical way to do so, was by installing lights at the King Complex.  The cost of installing lights, irrigation and drain tile, was approximately $1.65 million dollars.  Of which, the LBA committed to pay $450,000 with the City providing the balance.

It was the Board’s plan that newly implemented fundraising efforts would pay for the largest portion of the debt.  However, those efforts have not been as successful as anticipated.  Rather, a majority of the $250,000 already submitted to the City ended up coming from operating income (normally designated towards annual improvements and maintenance) and Association reserves instead.

Recently, a questionnaire was sent to LBA membership seeking input as to how the remaining $200,000 should be generated.  The results of the survey indicated that approximately 50% of respondents preferred to have a registration fee increase instead of fundraising for the lighting project.  Another 30% suggested a combination of fundraising and fee increases, with a small group wanting to fundraise only.

With those results in mind, the Board has approved a modest registration fee increase of $30 for the majority of the House programs and a $60 increase for most of the Travel programs (No increase for Senior Youth Travel).   This fee increase, plus some fundraising efforts outside of our membership and a small portion of our operating income, should generate the money needed to complete the project.  The upside is that you will no longer be asked to fundraise for the lighting project.

However, we will still be asking Travel teams to continue participating in the banner sponsorship program involving local businesses.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to email me at your convenience.

Thank you for your ongoing support as we continue to improve the quality of your player’s baseball experience!

Yours in Baseball,

David Tobias
LBA Commissioner

Lighting the Fields!

Presenting the check at the City Council

Thanks to the generosity and commitment of the LBA families, we are more than halfway to fulfilling our commitment to paying for the lights at King Field!!  Due to the support and dedication of the LBA families at the summer raffle, enough funds were raised that allowed us to give $100,000 to the City of Lakeville at their November meeting.

Watch for additional ways to help us fulfill our commitment to the City coming Spring of 2017.
